As I was holding my 3 year old’s lifeless body in my arms I couldn’t help but blame myself…
One day at work I got a call from my son´s daycare.
He had fainted and I was 10 miles away in another country to work for pennies, while my kid was fighting for his life…
I threw everything I had in my hands and drove like my life depended on it. We didn’t know it at the time, but my son had a cyst in his head, which put pressure on his brain, causing him to develop a severe form of epilepsia.
The problem was that he already had poor health and my job was hanging by a thread from the many days of caring for him…
So I did the only thing I thought I could and started several different businesses that each brought me a little extra income, but also stole the time from my son, in an attempt to juggle a startup, full time work and a sick kid.
The business that sort of kicked it off for me was an e-com store where I was dropshipping gaming equipment, like headphones and keyboards. It made me my first dollar online, but it certainly wasn’t easy.
I don’t know if you’ve ever tried using Facebook ads to grow your business, but if you have, you may have realised that there were more pieces to the puzzle than just simply advertising. I know I did.
I wanted to be a good father and spend time with my son and make enough money to take my full-time working wife out occasionally.
The problem was that most days I wasn’t making any money at all, and when I did, it was often only a few dollars. Needless to say, but putting up a few pictures and paying Facebook to boost a post didn’t exactly get me a lot of sales… which really stressed me out as I was about to lose my job.
Stubborn as I am, I began reading blog posts and buying books and courses with money I didn’t really have in an attempt to figure out why I wasn’t earning more. Because like countless others, I had seen the screenshots about how “easy money” it is to run an e-com store…
The first course I bought was written by a guy called Devin Sander, who taught how to use the Facebook objectives and retargeting my audience on Facebook. I started making some money again, but my margins had gone from small to non-existent… and on top of that my boss told me that they couldn’t afford to have a man down as often as I was, so as sorry as he was, it would be better if I just focused on my son…
I didn’t know what to do. I was now broke, hopeless and unemployed, and it kind of felt like I was doomed… So in the hopes that I’d find a way to make more money from my e-com store I bought some more courses that I couldn’t really afford.
Among them was something from a guy named Russell Brunson who spoke about sales funnels.
As I read his books and studied his material, I realised that what I had been missing was the full strategy… not another bulletproof smart tactic by some self-appointed guru, like many of the courses I had bought in the past.
That made me think: the thousands of dollars and years I spent learning this stuff might be something other business owners were struggling with as well. So I finally decided to abandon the e-com business and started helping gyms and personal trainers make more sales and growing their businesses.
Then one day a friend of mine asked if I could help him market a mortgage broker. One became two and I fell in love with the industry.
